Moana Pasifika announced Miracle Faiilagi today as the new team captain that will lead them into the 2026 DHL Super Ruby Pacific Season.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to lead this team. I’m not only leading the boys and this whole organisation, but I’m leading Pasifika people,” Faiilagi said.

Faiilagi hails from the villages of Vailele and Uafato in Samoa. Growing up he played for Vailele Rugby Club, and on the tough gravel and a cricket pitch of the village.

He was known as a star in the Samoan rugby scene where he won two Super 9 Under 20s championships with the Taula Eels.

In 2019, Faiilagi was awarded the Super 9 Under 20s Player of the Tournament. He also represented Samoa to the 2021 Sevens Championship.

Faiilagi entered the Super Rugby scene in 2023 after being spotted by Moana Pasifika coaches at the 2022 World Rugby Pacific Combine in Suva, Fiji.

Since then he has become stronger, becoming an elite talent in both Super Rugby and on the world stage as a Manu Samoa representative.

Faiilagi scored eight tries including a hat-trick in Moana Pasifika’s win over the Hurricanes last year. He also won the Moana Pasifika Attacking Player of the Year Award alongside Kyren Taumoefolau.

Moana Head Coach, Fa’alogo Tana Umaga said he's confident that Faiilangi will lead the team well using his wealth of experience on and off the field.

“Mira represents a true Moana man, someone who puts in the hard work, leads through action and embraces his culture and values.”

Miracle Faiilagi replaces Samoan-Kiwi rugby star, Adrie Savea, who captained the team last year.
