
HM King Tupou VI will pay a one-week state visit this week to China from November 21 to 27, at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
China's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning during a media briefing in China yesterday, 20 November, said the two sides are expected to have an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest.
"This is the second state visit of King Tupou VI to China after seven years and is of great significance for the development of bilateral relations. During the visit, the two sides will have in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of mutual interest."
The King's last state visit to China was in 2018, where he and HM Queen Nanasipau'u met with President Xi Jinping.
Tonga and China maintain a strong bilateral relationship within the Pacific islands region.
