Three arrested in Ha'alalo during Police drugs operation

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Three people were arrested on Monday for possession of methamphetamine and utensils during a Tonga police operation at a residence in Ha'alalo, in Western Tongatapu.

On Monday, 11 August, the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) acted on information regarding drug distribution in the area. Tonga Police says the property had been observed due to a high volume of short-stay vehicle visits, consistent with suspected drug related activity.

A 26-year-old male from Ha'alalo and a 46-year-old female from Pea were arrested at the scene.

During the operation, a 29-year-old male from Ha'akame entered the premises while the search was ongoing. He was found in possession of methamphetamine, cannabis, and drug-related utensils, and was also arrested.

Items seized during the operation, included packs of methamphetamine, a pack of cannabis, drug-related utensils, and Tongan cash.

All three individuals have been charged with possession of illicit drugs and drug-related utensils under the Illicit Drugs Control Act.

Tonga Police encouraged communities to report any suspicious activity to aid in the fight against illicit drugs.
