Five people aged between 15 and 55 were arrested on this week, during several drug operations conducted by the Police Drug Enforcement Unit across Tongatapu. Authorities also seized items included cannabis plants, methamphetamine, drug utensils and cash.
Tonga Police arrested a 38-year-old man in Fua'amotu, after a search of his property. Police reported finding 63 cultivated cannabis plants, cannabis leaves weighing 686.11 grams, a pack of methamphetamine weighing 0.12 grams, drug utensils, a mobile phone, five empty containers, and TOP $390.00 cash.
Fasi and Kolofo'ou arrests
On the same day, acting on reliable information regarding the sale and distribution of illicit drugs, officers apprehended a suspect.
Two associates were also detained with the seizure of two packs of cannabis weighing 18.81 grams, a pack of methamphetamine weighing .81 grams, drugs utensil, a Tongan passport, and TOP $127 cash.
The suspects involved are a two females aged 24-years and 15-years from Fasi, and a 55- year-old male from Kolofo'ou.
Mataika arrest
Based on additional credible intelligence, the Drug Enforcement Unit responded to reports of methamphetamine distribution in Fasi.
Despite resistance and an attempted escape, Police said they arrested a 42-year-old male from Mataika, and seized 24 packs of methamphetamine weighing 22.17grams, cannabis leaves weighing 12.23 grams, drug utensils, and TOP $680.00 cash.
The suspects remain in the custody of Tonga Police, while investigations are underway.
"Tonga Police is continuing its effort to combat the distribution of illicit drugs to reinforce the safety of the public, homes, and the communities," Tonga Police said.
They urged the public to come forward with any information that may assist in ongoing investigations or to report any illicit drug activities.
