42 arrested for drunk driving, public drinking

Forty-two individuals were arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) and public intoxication, during a Tonga Police weekend operation on Tongatapu.

Arrests were made at roadblocks and checkpoints in place during the operation and patrols in Nuku'alofa areas and surrounding areas.

Tonga Police reported arrests of 27 individuals due to alcohol consumption and being found drunk in a public place, and 15 individuals for driving under the influence. They ranged in age from 18-75 years old, with 39 males and 3 females.

"Public intoxication and driving under the influence come with significant risks to individuals and members in the public and within our community," Tonga Police stated today.

They urged the public to report druken driving to ensure that everyone is safe and protected at all times.
