Tonga is experiencing unusually cool night time air temperatures that are forecast to continue throughout the week. Tonga Met reported that Hango 'Eua on the morning of Tuesday, 13 August, recorded the coolest temperature in 2024 of 11.3 celcius.
Night time air temperature has been very cool since last week, 5 - 13 August, in various locations across Tonga.
Tonga Meteorological Services said these cool night time air temperature a reforecast for the remainder of this week, as a high-pressure system to the southwest of Tonga continues to circulate a moderate to fresh dry southeasterly wind flow, prevailing over Tonga.
Lowest air temperature records 2024
The table indicates the lowest night time minimum temperatures at various locations across Tonga during 5-13 August and the time of occurrence.
The coolest temperature recorded in 2024 was at 11.3°C at 6:30 am on Tuesday, 13 August, at Hango in ‘Eua.
Across other villages in Tongatapu and 'Eua the lowest temperatures were recorded during early morning from 5:00 to 6:00 am, in villages
The lowest minimum air temperature recorded last year for Tonga was 9.6°C on 30 July.
The lowest minimum air temperature on record in Tonga still sits at 8.7°C recorded in September 1994, at Fua’amotu.
