The Oceania Rugby Men’s XV Championships to be held in August in Papua New Guinea has been cancelled due to CoViD-19.

The decision was made based on the welfare of players in teams across the region due to ongoing travel and quarantine restrictions.

The World Rugby U20 Trophy to be held in September has also been cancelled due to continued uncertainty surrounding international travel.

Oceania Rugby stated the difficult but appropriate decision has been taken in line with the relevant government and public health authority advice and with the welfare of players, staff and wider society across the region as the top priority.

Meanwhile other fixtures have been postponed including:

  • Oceania Rugby Women’s Repechage qualification between Samoa and Tonga,
  • Oceania Rugby Women’s Fifteen’s Championship, and
  • Oceania Rugby Men’s and Women’s Sevens Championship.

The postponed fixtures and Oceania Rugby competitions will remain under review.
