Raids on retailers

A raid on retailers by a government team tasked with removing expired food items from shelves has cleaned out a major supermarket in Nuku'alofa yesterday, and will continue to clamp down on stores in the capital with unannounced inspections.

It is about time. In 2010, I came back to Tonga for a meeting under Codex and was buying a loaf of bread from Ha'amoko and a drink from a store nearby. The drink was expired. It was a store owned by and Indian from Fiji. I told him that the drink is expired and he replaced it. This kind of activities should be heavily punished and laws should be enforced. I actually suggested this to some people who works for the government at the time.
