The head of Tonga's delegation requested WMO and its Members to assist Tonga in the trading of carbon credits as a means of adaptation to the effects of Global Warming and associate climate change and climate variability. This request is obviously a reflection of the priority that the government places on climate change. - Sailosi Finau

On the evening of Tuesday, May 1st, 2007, I was prematurely giddy about my first opportunity of listening to the Prime Minister of Tonga, Dr. Feleti Sevele in San Bruno, California addressing the church leaders and a few Tongans who attended the meeting. With the current unfortunate state of affairs in the kingdom, my recent article on leadership and my impulse to participate, I went to the meeting with a sense of hope that the prime minister would be delivering an authentic message about leadership and his visions to unite the government and the people in a common cause towards political, economic, cultural and social development. - Mele Payne Lynch

If you are not happy with the tree slaughter at 'Atele which is happening right now, please voice your disapproval with the Education Dept. The Environment Division has absolutely no power to help. This was explained to me this morning. - Chris Egan

Tonga is on the edge of revitalizing her economy and I cannot agree more that this is now the call for everybody abroad to stand up and help our love Nation. I wish to pay my great tribute to Mrs. Swan for sparking this great idea again of calling upon the Tongans in UK to meet with the Minister of Finance and the HE Dr. Ngongo Kioa the Tonga High Commissioner in London to discuss further the "Operation Tonga Reconstruction". - David Tapiaka

With reference to my letter dated 29/04/07, after e-mailing the Tongan High Commission Office in London, the Tonga High Com. Sione Ngongo Kioa contacted me and we had a very useful discussion on the phone. As it stands now, the Finance Minister will be in the UK in the next few weeks and Kioa offered to arrange a meeting between Tongans in the UK and the FM to discuss ways and means of sending help back home. - Ngongo Kioa

The future economic, political and social success of Tonga lies in strong leadership. This kind of leadership establishes a vision for the country, works with all ministries, parliamentarians, privy council on such things as budgets and appointments, focuses on public/private partnerships and significant investments that will help revitalize its capital towards a sustainable, lively and attractive place to live, work and play, sees & understands both the bigger and smaller pictures, inspires excellence, speaks for the government and its people, and represents the country to the outside world. - Mele Payne Lynch

With regards to the recent letter from Senolita Swan UK. This is the type of response Tonga desperately needs, not pointing fingers at any one. Recovery comes with positive ideas and thinking. -Cliff

Many thanks to David Tapiaka for his letter on 27/04 "A call for Overseas Tongans to invest in Tonga" publicly supporting my letter published last month calling for Tongans abroad to invest in Tonga and help re-build our little Kingdom. I am pleased to report that the feedback from Tongans at home and abroad has been overall amazingly positive. - Senolita Swan

As someone living in Europe I could not but help laugh when I read that Sheikh Imam Abdul Fader, the spiritual leader of the local Tongan Muslim community, tried to portray Islam as a peace loving religion. It was the same here in Europe in the 60's, 70's and 80's while the Muslims were still few in numbers in many European countries. They portrayed their religion as one seeking peace and harmony with other religions. But now that they are large in numbers it is quite clear what many of them want. They want Europe to become Islamic. - Smike Kaszner

When the representatives win elections, they are the people's top choices to represent them in government. If these top choices are taken out so to speak to fill the post of a minister, they are removed from the very responsibility and the reasons why they were voted for in the first place. - Sione Lousiale Kava

Let's first determine the number of People's Representatives (PR) to the house in terms of their responsibilities to their constituent. It seems to me that the emphasis and the discretionary behind the number 17 recommended by the people is based on getting even or the upper hand on votes in the house. - Sione Lousiale Kava

Please allow me to whine for a few seconds regarding this potential fiscal crisis that is looming over the kingdom. No, it is not the crisis that I am bellyaching about. I cannot say if it is the oath of loyalty and the veil of confusion and apathy that governs Governmental Operations or the incompetence at the helm that is grinding my last nerve. Norman Schwarzkopf once said, "When placed in command, take charge." I may be wrong like I always have been, but I do not think there is a whole lot of taking charges in our government. - Tama Foa

I am somewhat disturbed reading about the commitment of the Tongan Muslim community to set up a boarding school in the country. It is amusingly predictable that the leader of this group assured the rest of the Tongan community that Islam is a religion of peace. - Rev. Ma‘afu Palu

I simply wish to thank you for your continuous coverage of the cases involving those PRs who by all means sought to identify themselves with the destruction of Nuku'alofa on 16/11. There is a sense in which the PRs directly involved with the events of 16/11 ought to be extremely thankful that their rights as Tongan citizens have been apparently upheld throughout the current situation in our country. I would think that if the claim that the Tongan government has been dictatorial and oppressive was to be substantiated in any way, that their treatment could have been altogether different from what they are given up to now. - Rev Dr Ma'afu'otu'itonga Palu

Would you please tell me what is going on with our National Rugby Union team? Have team members been selected yet for this year's Rugby World Cup in France? Is there a coach in place? Is the rugby committee formed with their main objective for the year: to win the world cup in France 2007 or thereabouts? - Vain Maka
