Pacific Women are the unsung heroes of the region’s tourism industry says the South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO), as it recognises their contribution to tourism development to mark International Women’s Day today. At every level of the tourism industry, Pacific women are represented from grassroots handcraft producers, and hotel and resort employees, to tourism industry executives.

Tonga's tourism industry wants to make Tonga a highly desirable tourism destination, but has difficulty in attracting investment of the quality and scale that will help it grow, said the Minister of Tourism Hon Semisi Sika in opening Tourism Industry Day, yesterday.

Around 2000 Chinese tourists visited Nuku’alofa on Friday, December 16, on an Italian cruise ship Costa Atlantica, which began its journey from China. They are the largest group of Chinese tourists to arrive since visa waivers were introduced this year.
