Australia may have won the Rugby League World Cup but Tonga has a faster Luger. Tonga’s first winter Olympian, Bruno Banani beat Australia’s Alexander Ferlazzo to 32nd place in the Luge Men’s Singles at the Sochi Winter Olympic Games and was ahead of Ferlazzo by only less than half a second.

The Tonga team to the XXII Winter Olympic Games was welcomed to the Mountains Games Village by the Vice-Mayor of Sochi on Wednesday, 5 February.

Tonga's team, supporting its first winter Olympian Luger Bruno Banani, will march on Friday night in the opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics, officially the XXII Olympic Winter Games (or the 22nd Winter Olympics) at 8:00pm in Sochi, Russia, (Tongan time 5:14am -8:14am Saturday February 8) at the Fisht Olympic Stadium.

The eight athletes are expected tp return to Tonga early Tuesday morning, Dcember 10. A celebratory march will be held in Nuku'alofa, organised by a Special Olympics Committee leaving from the Tonga Red Cross Offices on Hala Taufa'ahau at 9:00am. A program will be held at the Digicel Christmas Tree Square at 10:00am.
