Tonga Rugby 7s is applauding its outstanding player, Fetuli Paea, who was announced this week by Super Rugby champions Canterbury Crusaders to play in their 2020 season.

Some of the players in Tonga’s winning Invitation Rugby League Team have arrived in Nuku’alofa for celebrations to be held on a special public holiday, November 15.

Olympic hopes are alive for Tonga’s men’s national rugby 7s team after they defeated Papua New Guinea 31 – 0 to win 5th place at the Oceania Sevens Championship in Suva, Fiji over the weekend. The 5th place position means that they qualify for the Final Olympic Qualification Tournament to take place next year on 20-21 June at a location yet to be confirmed.

U.S. Tongan golfer Tony Finau will join a team of four American golfers led by the legendary Tiger Woods at the 13th President’s Cup this December in Melbourne, Australia. Tiger Woods was given the privilege of handpicking the American team, selecting Tony Finau, Patrick Reed, Gary Woodland and himself.

Hingano returns as halfback after recovering from a shoulder injury that resulted in him sitting out last weekend’s test match against the British Lions.

Tonga Invitational XIII produced a stunning 14 – 6 victory over the GB Lions after a dominant first-half performance in which two tries were scored by Michael Jennings and Sione Katoa. The convincing win in the international test match, affirms Tonga’s status as a rugby league tier one nation in a statement of unity by Tonga’s elite rugby players after a recent fallout with the estranged Tonga National Rugby League board. Wallaby prop Sekope Kepu has officially retired from international rugby following his team’s defeat to England and exit from the 2019 Rugby World Cup over the weekend. The 33-year-old announced last month that he would retire at the conclusion of Australia’s World Cup campaign and is set to move to England, where he will play for London Irish in England’s Gallagher Premiership.
