The Office of the Hon. Minister of Training, Employment, Youth & Sports on behalf of His Majesty...’s Government, has given its full support for the Tonga Sports Association (TASA) to bid for hosting the 2015 Pacific Games. According to the Secretary General of TASA, Takitoa Taumoepeau, the office has received the letter from the Hon. Minister of Sports which they have conveyed to the Secretary General of the Pacific Games Council, Mr Jim Tobin and it has received a very positive and warm reply.

An initiative of Microfinance Pasifika Network, the conference will provide a platform for the exchange of information on the provision of inclusive and sustainable financial services, including remittances, payment services and insurance, savings and credit in the Pacific Islands.

Acting on the advice of the Minister of Police that he still is of the opinion that public order continues to be seriously threatened and it is necessary for the purpose of maintaining public order that this proclamation has been made.

Commencing August 15 the price of all international air tickets for passengers departing the Kingdom of Tonga will increase by $30 due to the inclusion of a $10 Security Fee and a $20 Airport Development Fee. This is in addition to the $25 Passenger Service Charge collected at departure.

This week a WTO General Council meeting is set to endorse a draft decision by the WTO Committee on Subsidies to extend the transition period for the phasing out of export subsidies in a number of developing countries. The Government of Japan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will help the Republic of Palau improve economic and infrastructure management. The technical assistance grant of $1.4 million will begin in August 2007. ADB will administer the project, and provide $1 million of funding from the Japan Special Fund, with the balance provided by the Palau Government.
