While critics of the sale say the objects are an invaluable part of Tonga's cultural heritage and should not leave the kingdom to be sold in Europe.

Women's businesses were showcased tonight at the annual pre-Christmas WISE Market Night, held by Women in Sustainable Enterprises (WISE) Tonga Inc. in central Nuku'alofa. Stall-holders attracted a crowd who were entertained by local musicians as they browsed the food, handicrafts, jewellery and other products with many locally-made products on display and for sale. The market opened at 5:30pm in the Fund Management Ltd. courtyard Hala Taufa'ahau and will run until 9:00pm tonight, Friday.
