HRH Princess Salote Mafile’o Pilolevu Tuita visited the New Zealand High Commissioner Chancery for the first time, on 10 July which is almost 38-years since it was opened in Nuku’alofa.

The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra begins a week-long tour on Tongatapu from today, 19 June, on its first ever visit. Two Tongans in the orchestra, conducting Fellows Anne Filimoehala and Sam Uatahausi, who are training as conductors with the NZSO, will be presenters during the tour.

Educator, Meleane Pau'uvale, was named as an Honorary Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) in the King Charles III Birthday and Coronation Honours 2023. She is being recognised for providing essential services to the Tongan community and education.

A vigil is being held for HRH Princess Mele Siu'ilikutapu Kalaniuvalu Fotofili, lying at the Royal Palace in Nuku'alofa, after the funeral cortège arrived this afternoon, 2 June, from Auckland, New Zealand.

Flags will be flown at half-mast in Tonga on Saturday, 3 June in respect of the funeral of HRH Princess Mele Siu'ilikutapu Kalaniuvalu Fotofili.

HRH Princess Mele Siu‘ilikutapu Kalaniuvalu Fotofili (75) will be laid to rest on Saturday, 3 June at the Royal Tombs, Mala’ekula in Nuku’alofa. 

Princess Mele Siu‘ilikutapu, a cousin of King Tupou VI, has passed away at the age of 75 years. Born in 1948, the Princess was the second of ten grandchildren of the late Queen Salote Tupou III.
