King Taufa‘ahau Tupou IV yesterday morning, March 23, made his first public appearance in Tonga this year when he made a speech at the openeing of Vaiola Hospital's new wing, but the 87-year-old monarch who has been infirm, appeared to become distressed during the ceremony and was taken away by his concerned attendants.

More Tongans will die prematurely from diseases associated with tobacco smoking as a result of the government's recent changes to tobacco policy, warns the Tonga Medical Association this week, charging that government has allowed itself to be influenced by the tobacco industry to quietly lower taxation on tobacco.
