The Pacific Games Council and Tonga Sports Association National Olympic Committee have filed a civil suit against the Tonga government for breach of contract when they withdrew from hosting the 2019 Pacific Games.

The Prime Minister Hon ‘Akilisi Pohiva yesterday recommended to King Tupou VI to reappoint Lord Ma’afu as Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, after differences with another Cabinet Minister were reconciled. Lord Ma'afu had voluntarily resigned on March 2.

Losaline Ma'asi has been nominated by the Prime Minister to become the new Minister of Internal Affairs and replace an ousted Minister whom he fired in April, after fraud charges were laid against her.

In the latest spill of words, Tonga's former Minister for Internal Affairs ‘Akosita Lavulavu - who was sacked by the Prime Minister last week following fraud charges, spoke of her humiliation when another Minister replaced her at a Pacific Sports Ministers Meeting in Fiji in March.

The reasoning behind the Tongan Parliament's urgent push to work seven hours overtime on the 8th and 12th March in order to pass five bills that don’t address Tonga’s immediate Cyclone Recovery needs, remains a mystery to the public and some Members of Parliament.
