Tonga’s National Women’s U-16 Young Mataliki gained victory on their first debut at the Oceania Football Confederation U-16 Women’s Championship 2023, in a match against Solomon Islands 5-1, today, at the Pater Te Hono Nui Stadium in Tahiti.

Tonga’s national beach soccer team competed and placed fourth at the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Beach Soccer Nations Cup, held in Tahiti last week.

Although Tonga lost to Samoa 1-3 in its second game at the OFC U-19 Women’s Championship on 24 June, they did not make it easy for their opponent. The Tongans will now face New Caledonia on 27 June.

Football coaches and referees in Ha'apai attended an OFC Capacity Building workshop with a focus on Women’s Football, conducted by the Tonga Football Association for its stakeholders on 12-14 October.

Although Mataliki, Tonga’s National Women Football Team lost their quarter-final game against Papua New Guinea, the game was reported to have been one of the tournament’s greatest. Papua New Guinea won 3-2 on penalties, after 3-3 at extra time in an insane game.

Tonga’s National Women Football Team, Mataliki had a draw 1-1 with Cook Islands, in their second match at the OFC Women’s Nations Cup in Suva. Their fate and whether or not they will advance to the quarter finals depends on today's final group matches.

The new UEFA Nations League competition will be broadcast to viewers in Tonga starting from 3 June, after Digicel TV announced today that it had secured the rights to broadcast the football competition.
