Maikolo ‘Ealelei (20), a habitual thief, was sentenced to four years imprisonment for serious housebreaking when he stole around $34,000 pa’anga worth of items at a home in Tofoa last year. “It is a distressingly common offence committed in the main by young men. Two male teenagers were sentenced to seven and eight-years imprisonment each for violently raping a woman who lived alone, in a deterrent sentence by a Supreme Court judge who said this is to protect women against predatory sexual home invasions. The perpetrators were involved in drugs and alcohol.
