A four-year-old boy died at Prince Ngu Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, November 22 after being hit by a vehicle on Maiva Road in Hihifo, Vava’u. It is alleged that the boy had been left unattended in a parked vehicle before the accident.

A fire gutted a Chinese shop on Vaha’akolo Road at Tofoa on Saturday night, 19 November. The Fire Service said the fire started from a back room where a stove and gas bottle was located and engulfed the building. There were no suspicious circumstances found.

Tonga's reputation as the Friendly Islands is being threatened by criminal thugs –thought to be from the same group, who are attacking Tonga's Chinese shopkeepers with a brutality that is breathtaking. Shop surveillance videos released to Matangi Tonga this week show extremely violent crimes. The videos record attacks – in one a gun is fired to the side of a woman shopkeeper – and another where a Pahu shopkeeper, hit by a suckerpunch to the face, falls backward suffering severe head injuries. He remains paralysed and fed on a tube.
