Multiple Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) flights to Vanuatu this week have delivered emergency responders and tonnes of search and rescue equipment and aid, while 93 New Zealanders and approved foreign nationals have been evacuated. Another evacuation flight is being planned for Saturday, as part of New Zealand’s support to Vanuatu following Tuesday’s 7.3-magnitude earthquake.

Palatoni Laimani (37) is serving six years and six months in prison for possession of 155.90 grams of methamphetamine, seized in a police raid at his home in Hofoa. “It stands to reason that Mr. Laimani was dealing with others more heavily involved in illicit drug supply and so in turn, he forms part of serious organised criminal network,” stated the Judge.

David Kent Jr Tau’alupe (39) was jailed for one year for causing grievous bodily harm to ‘Alo’i Kei, when he stabbed him with a sharp object, causing a severe wound to his left upper abdomen, during a drink up altercation at the Laione Club in Vava’u. The judge said the offending with a concealed sharp object, “clearly signals a degree of planning and premeditation on his part coupled with the use of a highly dangerous weapon.”

The Government of Vanuatu, stated last night that most of the damage was in Port Vila, Efate. There were 14 confirmed deaths, and many injured or missing.
