'Eua water supply safe to consume, Ministry of Health advises

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

By Katalina Siasau

A warning over the safety of the 'Eua public water supply and bore supply has been cancelled. Authorities on Friday announced "The water is safe for drinking, bathing and all normal use."

The Ministry of Health in consultation with Tonga Water Board has cancelled their warning and said the decision was based on validation testing conducted by the University of South Pacific Laboratory in Fiji, facilitated by the World Health Organization, and Hills Laboratory, New Zealand.

The update comes two weeks after the Ministry first warned the public about elevated levels of lead detected in the water supply on ‘Eua.
