Nobles will toss a coin at 5.30pm to decide who will win the Tongatapu No. 3 Nobles' Representative seat because of a tied result between Lord Vaea and Lord Vaha'i.

With the General Election tomorrow Thursday, November 16 candidates have wound-up their campaigns after weeks of running rowdy floats parade, alongside radio, television programmes and community meetings throughout Tonga.

With a week left before Tongans head to the polls on Thursday November 16, there are 59,003 voters registered, after a supplementary electoral roll was published last week.

A recent amendment to Tonga's Electoral Act in early September makes it possible for five life peers to stand as candidates for the Tongan Parliament when nobles elect their nine representatives on 16 November, the Electoral Commissioner, Pita Vuki told an Election Reporting Workshop this morning. Nobles and Life Peers are not subject to the same scrutiny given to the nominations for the People's Representatives.

An election reporting workshop for journalists, alongside media presentation training for women candidates in Tonga's 2017 general election, is being held from October 30 to November 3, in Nuku'alofa.

Tonga needs to elect the right people and voters need to carefully consider what type of candidate they want to vote into parliament, HRH Princess Pilolevu said this morning, in opening a National Dialogue on Democracy Symposium at the Fa'onelua Centre. "We utterly need to elect the right people. We need those that would not change their colours like an octopus," the Princess said.

Tongans are heading to the polls soon on November 16, and there are now 57,391 voters registered, according to a final electoral roll published on September 15.

Tongans will go to the polls on November 16 in a General Election, to be held a year ahead of schedule. The nomination of candidates will be held for two-days from 27-28 September.
