Petelo Le’ohau (33) was sentenced to 12-months in prison, with half the time suspended on conditions, for possession of illicit drugs in two set of offences, including possession of 0.33 grams of methamphetamine.

Venasio Hau (32) was sentenced to four-years and six-months imprisonment, partially suspended, for possession of 27.76 grams of methamphetamine, while his two co-accused received suspended sentences. The illicit drugs were seized after Police received information of it being sold at a residence in Ma'ufanga.

Sione Pongi (36) is serving 10-months imprisonment for possession of 0.16 grams of methamphetamine seized at Vaini in October this year.

Sione Katoa (29) was sentenced to 21-months imprisonment with parts suspended for numerous charges that included possession of illicit drugs, namely 0.65 grams of methamphetamine at Veitongo.

Tevita Vaka Lutui (35) is serving 10-months imprisonment for possession of 0.21 grams of methamphetamine at Tokomololo.

‘Uhila Tu’i (33), who is currently serving a prison term for firearm offences, was further sentenced to four and a half-years imprisonment for drug charges that included possession of 33.97 grams of methamphetamine seized in his van at Hala’ovave.

A 45 year old man who exported methamphetamine from Tonga is the first person to receive a mandatory life sentence under a tough new drugs law. Nomani Kama Manulevu (45) from Nukuhetulu was sentenced to life imprisonment for the unlawful exportation of 29.7 kgs of methamphetamine that was concealed in a refrigerated container to New Zealand in 2021. 

Two people have been arrested and charged in relation to the seizure of 0.81 grams of methamphetamine from a rental car at Pahu in Nuku'alofa.

Three people have been arrested in connection with the seizure of 27.76 grams of methamphetamine at Ma'ufanga on 12 May.
