Sione Pongi (36) is serving 16-months imprisonment for drugs offences, after the Supreme Court replaced his original 10-months sentence imposed by the Magistrates Court, in a successful appeal by the Crown against sentence. “That he cooperated with the police I respectfully consider irrelevant when in reality he was caught red handed,” stated the judge.

Over 15kg of illicit drugs, allegedly methamphetamine, was seized by the Tonga Police drugs squad over the weekend in two raids on a house at Kolofo'ou and an office. Two members of a family, a 39-year old male and his 37-year-old sister were arrested in a police operation code-named Operation Feke.

Pousima Fehoko (27) was sentenced to 21-months imprisonment with parts suspended for possession of illicit drugs, including 1.07 grams of methamphetamine and 27.81 grams of cannabis.

Paea Kalisitiane (19) was sentenced to imprisonment for charges including possession of 1.29 grams of methamphetamine at a residence in Tokomololo. Her 24-year-old co-offender received a suspended sentence on a lesser charge.

A consistent drug re-offender, Sione ‘Ala (26) was sentenced two-years five-months imprisonment for possession of illicit drugs including methamphetamine, in two separate offences, involving vehicles in Nuku’alofa. 

Heneli Manuofetoa (42) was sentenced to two-years imprisonment for charges, including possession of 0.78 grams of methamphetamine seized inside his vehicle, after Police received information that he was selling illicit drugs in Nuku’alofa.

Malakai Fonua (25) was sentenced to 22-months imprisonment with the final 10-months suspended on conditions for charges of possession of illicit drugs, including 1.74 grams of methamphetamine.

A 28-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were arrested during a house raid by a Tonga Police drugs operation at Hofoa on Friday 25 August.

Three men were arrested with illicit drugs, live ammunition and cash at a house in Sopu on Friday, 30 June.
