Tropical cyclone Maila has strengthened in the Solomon Sea between Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands and is now rated as a dangerous category five storm. On some estimates, Maila is the strongest cyclone ever to form in the tropical waters between Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands.
