The Tongan noble Veikune ceased to hold his title and his estates on January 25, 2006 when he was found guilty in the Supreme Court of having committed an indictable offence, a judge has ruled today.

Siosifa Fatafehi Fuatakifolaha, the former holder of the noble title Veikune, was reprimanded and fined $20,000 this morning by the Chief Justice in the Nuku'alofa Supreme Court, after being found guilty by a jury on January 25 of the offence of attempting to evade customs import duties on 600 cartons of over proof Bounty rum, and for bribery of a customs officer.

Tonga's Chief Justice Robin Webster this morning, February 15 postponed the sentencing of the former Speaker of the Tongan parliament, Noble Veikune, (now known as Siosifa Fatafehi Fuatakifolaha) to tomorrow, awaiting a medical report.

The trial of the Speaker of the House, Hon. Veikune, and two other men, who have pleaded not guilty to bribery charges, has been postponed by Mr Justice Ian Thomas until next year 2006.
