The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra begins a week-long tour on Tongatapu from today, 19 June, on its first ever visit. Two Tongans in the orchestra, conducting Fellows Anne Filimoehala and Sam Uatahausi, who are training as conductors with the NZSO, will be presenters during the tour.

Musical Tongans are urged to apply to join in a Commonwealth Musical collaboration “for healing the human spirit during CoVid-19”. By combining the voices of 54 musicians from 54 member countries in a powerful virtual performance, the music video aims to showcase every Commonwealth member nation. “We need a musician to represent Tonga on this project, and we haven't had any applications yet!” Léonie Adams, artistic director of the The Dionysus Ensemble told Matangi Tonga this morning.

'On The Spot', a talented young Tongan singing group received an award for the "Best Commonwealth Band/Artist" musical video, at Marlborough House, London on August 12, 2010, International Youth Day. Three girls, singers 'Emeline Kite, Minaira Fifita and Nisyola Fifita, and two boys, guitarist Samiu 'Ofa and cinematographer Malani Wolfgram travelled to London to receive their award.
