Nesiasi Kamoto (49) was found guilty of discharging a a .22 rifle to intimidate his relatives, who were living at his tax allotment in Tofoa. He will be sentenced at the Nuku'alofa Supreme Court. on 28 October. “This should be a salient reminder to owners and licensed holders how important it is to ensure safe and secure storage of firearms," said the judge.

Mele Teusiva ‘Amanaki was awarded $50,000 in damages by the Supreme Court, after winning a long and winding defamation lawsuit against Tonga Weekly newspaper and its former editor Faka'osi Maama, who published articles and a photograph on three occasions back in 2014. The Lord Chief Justice had no hesitation in finding that both defendants were actuated by malice.

The Union flag on top of the Buckingham Palace was lowered to half-mast at 18:30 BST (6:30am Friday, Tonga time).
