The official result of Tonga’s 2021 General Parliamentary Election was announced by the Electoral Commissioner and Supervisor of Elections, Pita Vuki, this afternoon, 30 November 2021. There are now 73 remaining, out of the initial 75 candidates registered in Tonga’s General Election scheduled for November 18. One man died, while the other withdrew his candidacy, both from Tongatapu 2 constituency.

Lord Fusitu’a has been re-elected, in absentia, as the Nobles' representative of Niuatoputapu and Niuafo’ou after a by-election was held at the Palace Office yesterday morning, 31 August. Lord Fusitu'a who suffered from failing health was evacuated to Auckland last year and remains in New Zealand.

Siaosi Vailahi Pohiva won the Tongatapu 1 By-election for a seat in the Tonga Legislative Assembly, only 16 votes ahead of Dr Netatua Pelesikoti Taufatofua in a tight race, after the result was announced in Nuku'alofa this evening.

Registered voters in Tonga are expected to head to the polls on May 30 and elect their new Town and District Officers to take office for the next three-years. The number of candidates has decreased since the last elections in 2016.

67% of registered Tongan voters turned out to cast their votes in the General Election 2017 held on November 16.

Nobles will toss a coin at 5.30pm to decide who will win the Tongatapu No. 3 Nobles' Representative seat because of a tied result between Lord Vaea and Lord Vaha'i.

The process of forming Tonga's new government and choosing a Prime Minister following the November 16 General Election, will start on or before November 30, but the process may continue to mid-December.

Tongans are heading to the polls soon on November 16, and there are now 57,391 voters registered, according to a final electoral roll published on September 15.
