Ta‘ufo‘ou Fale‘ofa (45) was sentenced today to 20-months imprisonment for using a firearm without a license, specifically a .45 pistol, which he fired at a vehicle in Kolonga in January this year, after entering a home with a loaded firearm. The judge noted the accused had a significant criminal history both here and in the United States for violence involving firearms.

Samuela Fiefia (26) was sentenced to eight months imprisonment for possession of 1.19 grams methamphetamine and possession 4.27 grams of cannabis seized at his home in Ma'ufanga.

Kalafitoni Toluta’u (42), a deportee and repeat offender, was sentenced today to two-years six-months imprisonment for possession of 2.8 grams of methamphetamine, seized at 'Utulau in 2018. .

A man who stole over $20,000 worth of goods from his employer in Nuku'alofa, was sentenced to three-years six-months imprisonment for serious housebreaking and theft. However, because he was a young first offender and had pleaded guilty, the judge showed leniency and suspended the sentence for three years.

‘Ana Lenilisi Tauvaka was found guilty of receiving more than $10,000 pa'anga worth of stolen goods from her husband, after he had stolen truckloads of goods from the warehouse of his employer, Adiloa’s Store in Nuku'alofa.

‘Asaeli Teuilo and Petelo Tu’ipulotu have been found guilty on a joint count of possessing 0.13 grams of methamphetamine, seized at Sopu on September 18, 2020.

Sioeli Tapueluelu (37) was sentenced today to 12-years imprisonment for manslaughter in the death of a 27-year-old, whom he punched and hit on the head with a wok frying pan. “His history and senseless outburst of violence in this case, resulting in the death of an innocent young man, make him a serious danger to society, which this Court must strive to protect,” said Lord Chief Justice Whitten. He called the defendant’s savage attack “a gutless act of cowardice in initiating the assault.”

Siosaia Fifita (33) was sentenced to two-years imprisonment for possession of 2.36 grams of methamphetamine and 3.14 grams of cannabis. He was caught after Tonga Police received information he was driving around Nuku'alofa selling illicit drugs.

Two men were today fined $2,400 pa'anga each for possession of 784 sea cucumbers, during the closed fishing season on March 10 earlier this year. The judge said that failure to pay would see them locked up for three-months in prison.
