The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Lord Tu‘i‘afitu met experts at the Queensland Department of Resources (QDOR) in Brisbane on December 9 2022, at the conclusion of a visit to Australia.

On a visit to Australia this week, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Lord Tu'i'afitu, visited Geoscience Australia and extended Tonga's gratitude to staff, who responded to the Hunga-Tonga Hunga-Ha’apai volcanic eruption on 15 January. They have a shared interest in improving the monitoring and understanding of geohazards, as the January eruption generated a tsunami that reached Australia.

The Tongan Parliament resumed its 2016 session yesterday morning October 3, amid disarray. Apparent procedural inefficiencies wasted much of the day. Firstly, a letter protesting against a Bill for a Water Resources Act was read even before the Bill was read in the House. Then legislators spent over an hour listening to motions from one member, even though the Legisture had already voted on and decided for the motions to be lowered into the Whole House Committee. The Kolovai Health Centre on the western district of Tongatapu has re-opened its doors on October 4 after being refurbished with over $20,000 pa’anga by the Australian Government, supporting the fight against Non-Communicable Diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, which are reaching epidemic levels in Tonga.
