King Tupou VI launched the installation of Tonga's first Wind Power Generation System, with a ground breaking ceremony on 14 September at Niutoua, on the east coast of Tongatapu. The $40 million project is funded by Japan.

The new Mata ‘o e La‘a Solar Facility that will provide 3% of Tongatapu's energy demand with green energy, was received for Tonga by HM King Tupou VI at Vaini in an official handover of the project this morning, 29 May.

Tonga Power Ltd has secured a grant from the Japanese government to fully fund a solar power project in Vaini. The grant of 1,573,000,000 Yen equates to roughly over USD$15.2 Million.
