As Japan's PALM Ambassador, HE Mr. Takata Toshihisa visited Tonga on 17-18 April in preparation for the Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM10) in Japan in 2024. 

Tonga’s first Guideline for Healthy Living and national campaign was launched on 13 April in an effort to tackle the health problems arising out of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), which remain the leading cause of deaths with around 70% of deaths annually in Tonga connected to NCDs. MAFF Minister, Lord Fohe, urged Tongans to eat healthier food. He believed it was not impossible to change our lifestyle for a healthier Tonga.

Tonga’s inter-island ferry MV ‘Otuanga’ofa which is still docked in Auckland for maintenance, is now expected to return to Tonga next week, said the Prime Minister Hon. Hu’akavameiliku during a press conference on 16 March.

The construction of a $60 million sports complex for Tonga High School by the People's Republic of China is going ahead, after a ground breaking ceremony was held on 20 January in Nuku'alofa.

Tonga was elected as a member of the IRENA Council for 2023 -2024 during the 13th Assembly, in UAE last week, that brought together heads of state, government, ministers, and decision-makers in the energy sector from its Member States, as well as interested parties, under a theme “World Energy Transition - The Global Stocktake”. Tonga's Prime Minister was in UAE for the event.
