There were mixed results for Team Tonga at the Commonwealth Games over the weekend and today. Finau ‘Ohuafi won the first heat of the Men’s 50m Freestyle with a time of 26.07, but he didn't make the top 16 athletes in the Men’s 50m Freestyle semi-finals to be held later tonight. Other athletes also competed today in lawn bowls, weightlifting, athletics and boxing.

Swimmer, Finau ‘Ohuafi was just inched out of third place in the 50m Butterfly heat 1 this afternoon. In Lawn Bowls, Malia Kioa lost to Australia and current world champion, but won against Zambia, and in Boxing, John Moleni narrowly went down to Scotland.

Flag bearer and boxer, Magan Maka, dressed in traditional tau'olunga costume, led Tonga’s contingent of athletes to a loud cheering crowd at the opening ceremony of the 2018 Commonwealth Games held at Carrara Stadium on the Gold Coast, Australia, last night. King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau’u Tuku’aho are at the Games to support the team.
