Four men arrested in drug operation include senior civil servant

A senior government official is among four men arrested and charged with possession of drug utensils following a Tonga Police drugs operation on Monday, 16 February 2026. The suspects  aged between 35 and 59 years, include an official at the Prime Minister's Office.

Tonga Police stated today the suspects include a 52-year-old from Fasi-mo-e-Afi, a 35-year-old man from Kolomotu'a, and two others aged 40 and 59 from Fasi-mo-e-Afi and Ma'ufanga.

"Following an initial arrest at Mataika, officers carried out a search at a residence in Fasi, where drug paraphernalia allegedly used for smoking and the sale of illicit substances was seized."

Tonga Police reminded the public that the law applies equally to everyone.

"Any person found participating in illegal activities will be dealt with in accordance with the law, regardless of position or status," they stated.

Investigations are ongoing.
