ELECTRICITY TARIFF EFFECTIVE FROM 1 JANUARY 2026
The Commissioners of the Energy Commission are pleased to announce an electricity tariff reduction of 2.58 seniti per kWh (kilowatt hour). This is a 4.1% reduction from the last quarter (Oct–Dec 2025) when the electricity tariff was 92.16 seniti per kWh. The new electricity tariff for this quarter is $0.8958 seniti per kWh.
The revised tariff driven by a 0.88% decrease in diesel prices from $2.0904 in September to $2.0720 per litre in December 2025.
The new starting tariff of 89.58 seniti/kWh is the new electricity tariff to adopt by Tonga Power Limited and will be reviewed on a quarterly basis with respect to the movement in diesel prices and on an annual basis according to the movements in inflation.
Note: The Government of Tonga will continue to fund the cost under the Government Policy Obligation (GPO) of maintaining the tariff at 70 seniti/kWh for customers consuming less than 150 kWh per month.

Fuel & Renewable Cost Adjustments Mechanism for the Tonga Electricity Tariff
Effective 1 January 2026, the revised power tariff will be set at $0.8958 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), representing a decrease of $0.0258 from the previous quarter’s rate of $0.9216. The decrease in diesel prices of 4.1% during the Jan-Mar 2026 quarter.
NOTE: The Electricity Tariff is regulated by the Energy Act and administered by the Energy Commission. A process set down in the Concession Agreement between Tonga Power Limited and the Energy Commission determines the tariff adjustment. The Competent Authority is the Tongan Government Agency that sets the landed price of diesel which Tonga Power Limited uses for its power generation.
