Wake up! - Senolita Swan:
Daylight Robbery
When will the Crown Prince wake up to the fact that Shoreline & Co is robbing his own people. They actually want to give it back to the Tongan Government for $30 Million pa'anga! What have the Tongan people done to deserve such treatment. Where would the Government get $30 million from to pay off these louts?
Please wake up Sir - Shoreline is slowly suffocating your own people.
From a very concerned Tongan who is lucky enough not to live in Tonga. - Senolita Swan
We must open our big brown
We must open our big brown eyes - Henry Alexanda Tonga:
I still believe 100% that the establishment of Shoreline Group was done on good faith and intention and it was well aligned with the government economic policy of “enhancing private businesses and private sector as remedial solution for the stagnancy of the Tongan Economy”. Well done your Royal Highness, and I think the people like us who are very good in mouth peace realized very well that the initial opportunity from government for privatizing of the power operation could have been easily be taken by any overseas company but the great courage of your Royal Highness mobilized this business team and I believe what had established so far is way beyond anyone could do in Tonga. I cannot deny the 15 million US dollars investment by the Shoreline given the High Tech System that are already established and I believe the idea was gathered to meet gradual increase of power demand from new businesses and secondary industries in Tonga. Well done your Royal Highness and your business partners.
My letter of 22 May 2005 was deliberately challenging the government and politicians to please do their home work. Now we stood up and marched for handover the power operation and the question is “Is this for the good or for the worse?”. “You were right, you don't know”.
Well done to the outcome of the march and I can see that the majority of Tonga feel the burden of high power tariff and this becomes a very clear benchmark for the status of socio-economic development in Tonga. We must work together, Politicians and government if anyone cares enough for the people and the future generations of Tonga. Enhancement and reforming of public services is on its way and I believe the inefficiencies of the public services and public enterprises may be one of the driving forces that forced out the Crown Prince from government and mobilize this Shoreline Group. Who could do better than the Crown Prince? Please stand up or put your hands up!! What is important here, people must be awaken and try to realize more thoroughly the incoming situations to distinguish the political will and career of the Politicians and what is best for the people. Every problem must be diagnosed and decide wisely the treatments to be used. This is what the decision makers should do and we must open our big brown eyes more widely and start figuring out what is going on and what is best for us people?
The Shoreline issue is way too political and this can create more unsettle and unrealistic decisions to the government. Let me promise this to you people, whatever decision ended with the Shoreline issue one way or another people will remain the victims and sufferers and I am talking here about the majority of the population, 75% lower income earners of the population in Tonga and this is YOU and ME. The higher income earners, upper 25% of the population include the Politicians, Royal families and Rich People etc. will still be parting and enjoying their money that they probably deserve!!.
The Question is “What should we do uncle Bry?” There are more than enough political issues on the table to solve and I think the best thing to do now is going back to square one. Everybody, I mean everybody must sit down and try to work together for the first benefit of US PEOPLE AND THE WHOLE COUNTRY. The Politicians and the government and the Royal Family must work together too. Your Majesty's government must enhance affiliating and interaction with the people at the grassroots level. The Prime Minister's Office must invest more in establishing appropriate systems to encourage the involvement of the people and communities in development. This can be done through… district and village officers, every ministries should formalize more working committees involving people etc. and I think MORE TRANSPARENCY can reduce dramatically the misinforming and misunderstanding of the poor people by the MEDIA. I may be too optimistic here but this is a strategic approach for the government to take on board. They must step down and meet the people to substantiate interaction and dialogue to let the people feel that the government serves them. Let's get the hell out from the office once in a while and meet your target clients and the people too. Or are we too busy in meeting important clients and traveling abroad? The Executives should think seriously of incorporating this suggestion in your departmental strategic plan, annual work plan, monthly and actions plans and do not forget to create appropriate activities in your respective departmental budget. Can the district Police call a meeting with the people of the districts say once in a quarter? How about the Ministry of Labour, Commerce, and Industry, can they meet with the villagers and businesses say once in a month? Etc. etc. this can be argued but the benefits in exchanging ideas and enhancing people's understanding on the way the government is running will make a big! big! big fat different. Believe it or not! but you are most welcome to try, mind you that the budget for these extra activities may be too minute in comparison to the benefit.
I do not want to point fingers at anyone regarding the Shoreline issue and any other government shortfall, Oh … Sorry .. for everybody's wrong!, Team woring is our strength always and let everyone do their homework. For Shoreline issue, I urge the government to assess the situation seriously and give the Politicians a chance too, whatever decision or option taken, this will be the best treatment to take and this may help decreasing confusing criticisms to the public. “Pea 'ofa mai aa he lotu 'o oo aa 'o fai ha ngaue 'aonga ke mavivi ha me'a”.
