55 new Omicron cases for Tonga, recovery figures unclear

Discrepancies in breakdown of the COVID-19 (Omicron variant) figures for Tonga released by the government's press conferences, continue to confuse people who are trying to follow exactly how many cases have tested negative/recovered since recording of cases began on 29 October last year. There were 55 new cases reported today, and 57 new negatives/recoveries. It seems likely there were a further 60 recoveries that were not specified. One person has died from an underlying condition.

Thank you Matangi Tonga for providing updates on COVID case numbers from the Tongan government on your website. Are you able to ask the government to report case numbers for the different island groups in their announcements, so you can include this info on your online reports?
We saw your online story last night, and the questions Matangi Tonga raised about clarifying active case numbers.
We have extended family in Vava’u who are aware that there has been one case there, but would really like to know more. Radio updates have not been providing this information. We are able to communicate with them via text message since last week, and via WhatsApp since the cable was repaired in recent days, but as far as we know they do not have good access to internet or email.
