Six new Australian Volunteers have arrived in Tonga to provide assistance to Government departments and the Mango Tree Centre for a year.

With no reflection on Ausaid . . . jut a comment generally on the subject of aid:
It is a wonderful reflection on the human psyche that we have so many people, some good (some with alternative motives), in the world offering their volunteer help . . . however many countries having had dangerous and very "bad" experiences . . . now rightly "vet" the volunteers qualifications thoroughly, police convictions and expect employment references as a precursor, before allowing "volunteered " personal to work in positions of responsibility with vulnerable people . . . children, disabled, the sick etc.
Of course all aid that fulfills positions that after due diligence, it is decided Tongans are not qualified or capable for employment to do, still contributes to Tongas knowledge and development is very welcome . . .
