Very sad but no surprise at all. 14 deaths compared to 8 last year? Almost double? Tonga has some of the worst driving that I've experienced anywhere in the world. Combine that with the high number of people consuming lots of alcohol here and you have accidents looking for a place to happen.
Tonga should expect to see these numbers continue to rise alongside the rising number of theft and also the rising amounts of drugs being used in this country (Ice/Meth) that no one is talking about for some reason. It may be time to wake up and bring these issues into the light.
You don't see the level of drunkeness many places that you see here on a Friday or Saturday night. But wait, I thought this was a Christian country. I guess as long as everyone is sitting in a church on Sunday and the bakeries are closed we can go on pretending.

To be clear, my comment is not against Jesus or Christianity. The problem is the much of what we see in the Tongan religious world today has very little to do with what the Bible teaches, the example Jesus set, or wanted his followers to live like. There are a few characters in the Bible that very much reflect much of what we see in Tonga today: The Pharisees. And Jesus didn't have much good to say about them.
