Tonga in the bidding to host Pacific Games 2019

Tonga makes a final bid to host the Pacific Games in 2019 with its presentation next week to the General Assembly of the Pacific Games Council in Wallis & Futuna, for the event that will require $USD70 million to stage here.

There is no woman in the Tonga government delegation but TASA reports that one woman Tupou Pasikala, a translator on the negotiation document, will be funding her own travel to the event.Tupou Pasikala the French Consul to Tonga reports that she will not be travelling with the delegation. She is leaving for Wallis & Futuna on the flight through Nadi on Friday because it is cheaper and she is going to Wallis funded by the French Government to organise a teacher exchange. The government delegation leaves on Saturday, travelling through Auckland and Noumea on their way to Wallis. Tupou said that there would be women heads of sports delegations from other Pacific countries who will be voting on the bids and who had previously noted Tonga's gender imbalance in leadership.
