The Tonga Secondary Schools Netball Competition has opened with a strong turnout of about 14 schools at Lavengamalie Christian College in Nuku’alofa, on Friday, 22 May 2026.
The tournament, organised by the Tonga Netball Association, aims to develop young players’ skills, confidence and teamwork both on and off the court.
Students, teachers and families gathered on the grounds in sunny conditions to support their teams on the opening day, creating a lively atmosphere marked by school spirit and sportsmanship.
In one of the senior girls’ feature matches, Tonga High School defeated Lavengamalie Christian College in a closely contested encounter.
Elsewhere in the senior girls division, Queen Salote College faced Takuilau College as the opening round of matches continued.

Students told Matangi Tonga that the competition helped them push beyond their limits while building stronger bonds with teammates.
The participating schools are Tonga High School, Queen Salote College, Liahona High School, Apifoou College, Tupou High School, Saint Andrews High School, Takuilau College, Lavengamalie Christian College, Liahona Middle School, Tonga Side School, Pakilau Middle School, Maamaloa Side School, Havelu Middle School and Ocean Of Light.
Organisers encouraged schools and supporters to attend throughout the competition, with free entry helping attract large crowds and strengthen community engagement around the sport.
