
A new Justice of the Supreme Court of Tonga, Hon, Mr. Edward Targowski KC was formally sworn in on 4 May 2026, at a ceremony held at the Cabinet room, in Nuku'alofa.
The Privy Council has appointed Mr Justice Targowski KC, as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Tonga and of the Land Court of Tonga, for a term from 1 May 2026 to 31 December 2030.
“I am delighted that after 50 years of practice at the Faculty of Advocates I have now taken up my appointment as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Tonga," he stated.
Mr Justice Targowski KC was called to the Bar in 1975 and became Queen’s Counsel in 1989. From 1985 until 1987 he held the appointment of Senior Magistrate and Coroner in the Republic of Seychelles. From 1991 until 1992 he was the lead Queen’s Counsel representing all five families in the Clyde Enquiry into Satanic Child Abuse on Orkney, Scotland.
He has represented clients in trials, appeals and inquiries in some controversial legal cases in Scotland. He provides advice and representation to public, private and commercial firms on all aspects of crime, fraud, embezzlement, proceeds of crime, money laundering and data privacy.
He recently gained the Certificate in Data: Law, Policy and Regulation from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and is a member of the Institute of Privacy Professionals.
