Tongan Judoka, Paula Monta secured a silver in the Senior Men +100kg division, at the Oceania Open on Saturday, 2 May, in Mandurah, Australia.

Paula was the only athlete representing Tonga at the event. Fresh from his bronze medal performance at the Oceania Championships in April, Paula faced strong opposition from athletes representing the UK, Indonesia, and Australia.

"He continues to show strong potential on the international stage for Tonga," the Tonga Judo Association stated.

The Oceania Open, unlike the Oceania Championships which is strictly for Oceania countries, attracts competitors from across the world.

The 20-year-old, who previously represented New Zealand and based in Canberra, has been training in Japan for the last year.

Paula will next represent Tonga at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026 at the end of July.
