Tongan flags to fly half-staff for former Fiji President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau

Tongan flags will be flown at half-staff tomorrow, Friday 17 April 2026, in respect of the State Funeral of HE Brigadier-General Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, in Suva, Fiji.

The public was notified today, 16 April, that the Acting Chief Secretary & Acting Secretary to Cabinet, 'Akanesi Taufa with the consent of Cabinet, had decreed that:

"All national flags in the Kingdom of Tonga are to be flown at half-mast on Friday 17th April, 2026 in respect of the state funeral of His Excellency Brigadier-General, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, former President of the Republic of Fiji."

King Tupou VI is attending the State Funeral in Suva, accompanied by his Private Secretary Sione Fifita and joined by Royal family members, including Crown Princess Sinaitakala Tuku'aho, Princess Royal Salote Mafile'o Pilolevu and Lord Tuita.

The Prime Minister  Lord Fakafanua and Speaker of Parliament, Lord Vaea are attending.

Tongan nobles  attending include Lord Tu'ivakano, Lord Nuku, and Lord Tu'iha'ateiho.
