
HM King Tupou VI welcomed four Heads of Missions at the Royal Palace in Nuku'alofa during the first Diplomatic Week for the year, 25-27 March 2026. Four Ambassadors and High Commissioners presenting their Letters of Credence to the King, included Estonia, Pakistan, India, and Türkiye.
The Ambassadors and High Commissiones presenting their Letters of Credence were:
- Republic of Estonia - H.E Mr. Jaan Reinhold, with residence in Canberra
- The Islamic Republic of Pakistan - HE Dr. Faisal Aziz Ahmed, with residence in Wellington
- Republic of India - HE Suneet Mehta, with residence in Suva
- Republic of Türkiye - HE Mr. Melih Karalar, with residence in Wellington
The four Head of Missions also called on the Prime Minister Lord Fakafanua, HRH Crown Prince Tupouto'a 'Ulukalala, and Cabinet Ministers and Head of Resident Diplomatic Missions.
Each diplomatic week provides opportunities to cultivate long lasting and strong partnerships between the Government of the Kingdom of Tonga and the Government of the Ambassadors and High Commissioners who present credentials to the King.
A letter of credence is a formal diplomatic letter that appoints a diplomat as an Ambassador/ High Commissioner to another sovereign state and is presented to the Sovereign in a formal ceremony to mark the beginning of a diplomatic posting.
