Four arrested after ‘Anana shooting incident

Four men have been arrested after a confrontation between in-laws escalated into a shooting incident in ‘Anana last week, Tonga Police say.

Police said the incident occurred when two men from Vaini, who are siblings, went to a home in ‘Anana to confront their in-laws, resulting in the discharge of a firearm on a public road.

Two men were arrested on Wednesday, 18 March 2026, the same day as the shooting.

A man in his early 30s from Mataika and ‘Anana has been charged in relation to the unlawful discharge of a firearm. Police recovered and seized a .22 calibre rifle used in the incident, which was unlawfully possessed.

A second man, in his early 40s from Vaini, was also arrested. He sustained injuries during the incident, received medical treatment, and is currently in stable condition. He has been charged with trespassing.

On Sunday, 22 March, a 64-year-old man from ‘Anana was arrested. A 43-year-old man from Vaini was also apprehended after police searched for him following the incident. He has been charged with trespassing.
