
HM King Tupou VI and HM Queen Nanasipau'u, accompanied by members of the Royal Family of Tonga, attended a diplomatic reception last night, 12 February, at ‘Anana, marking the 66th birthday of Emperor Naruhito of Japan. The event was hosted by the Ambassador of Japan to Tonga, HE Inagaki Hisao.
In his remarks, Ambassador Inagaki reflected on the strong and enduring relationship between Japan and Tonga, highlighting the close ties between the two nations’ royal households. Raising a toast, he expressed his wishes for the good health and happiness of the Emperor and Empress of Japan, the continued prosperity of King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau'u and their Royal Household, and for the people of Tonga.
"As we celebrate His Majesty Emperor Naruhito’s birthday, we also reflect upon the enduring friendship and close ties between the Imperial Household of Japan and the Royal Household of Tonga, and the fact that Your Majesties were pleased to preside over this event is a testament to the solid foundation of our countries relations," he said.

The Ambassador also paid tribute to the enduring spirit of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. “Our shared journey is one of mutual respect, cultural exchange, and strategic partnership,” he said.
Looking ahead, Ambassador Inagaki noted that Crown Prince Tupouto'a 'Ulukalala is expected to return to Japan soon to attend the 3rd Japan-Pacific Islands Defense Dialogue in his capacity as Minister for His Majesty’s Armed Forces. The visit, he said, will “further strengthen defence cooperation between Japan and Tonga, enhancing our shared commitment to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region based on the rule of law.”
Among those attending the reception at the Ambassador’s residence were the Prime Minister, Hon. Lord Fakafanua; Speaker of Parliament, Lord Vaea; Members of Cabinet; People’s Representatives; members of the diplomatic corps; and other distinguished guests.
