5.5M earthquake felt in southern Tonga

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

A Magnitude 5.5 earthquake, centred close to ‘Eua was felt in southern Tonga, at 4:31pm today.

Tonga Meteorological Service issued a Tsunami No Threat Advisory for the quake, located 50 km south of 'Ohonua, 'Eua and 84km south east of Nuku'alofa, Tongatapu, at a depth of 10km.

The Geohazard Unit of the Ministry of Land, Survey, Planning and Natural Resources reported that the duration of the earthquake was three seconds.
